Ozone is, amongst other things, used to purify the basin water of polar bears, sea lions, pinguins and dolphins for example.
The basins of zoos and aquariums often contain a relatively big amount of protein, this makes them highly suitable to use protein skimmers as an ozone reactor. This way, the flocculation properties of ozone are used optimally and the chemicals will immediately be removed by the skimmer. Ozone has many more advantages:
- The animals will be clearly visible for your visitors and the caretakers because of the discolouration of the water
- Removes smell
- Increases the oxygen levels of the water
- Lowers the disease pressure, decreases the risk of diseases and infections
- Removes proteins and so less foam is formed
- Flocculation of waste products
- Breaks down various chemicals
- Converts nitrite into nitrate
A good biological and mechanical filter remains necessary. Ozone can do a lot of things but it isn’t a miracle cure. We can also take care of the design and construction of the filter system. That way, a good integration of the ozone system is guaranteed.
